TheRedMenace.com "Eye on Recruiting" heads up to New York to take a look at Westchester CC Jarrid Famous

Last week the University of New Mexico coaching staff headed up to New York to get a closer look at 6-11 235 lb forward Jarrid Famous of Westchester Community College in New York. “New Mexico has just recently come out to visit,” said Famous.

I checked out Jarrid’s stats through 14 games and they are impressive. 23.6 ppg, 13.4 rpg, and toss in 31 blocks for good measure. I asked Jarrid what he felt his strong points are on the court. “Rebounding especially on the offensive side (80 offensive boards in 14 games) and running the floor I do that very well,” said Famous.

Famous knows he isn’t the finished product. “I feel to work harder, rebound and do what the coaches ask of me,” said Famous. “Basically the fundamentals that I’ve been taught, I’m pretty athletic kid, I can run the floor, but needed to continue and learn the fundamentals, get stronger, and continue to learn the game of basketball.”

Playing in New York and putting up the numbers that Famous is putting up there is no doubt that many D-I schools are starting to take notice. “I’m hearing from the entire Big East, most of the A-10 schools, ACC, and the Big XII schools,” said Famous. “We (Westchester CC coaches) getting together with my coaches now to start taking a look at the offers and put a list of my top schools together and where I would fit in.”

“New Mexico just really started coming into the pictures, “said Famous. “When I sit down with my coaches I will take a look and see where New Mexico could fit in and then I will start making a decisions on a list, and where I’ll be visiting.”

Should Famous decide to visit the 505 he will have a friendly face meet him at the airport and show him around. “Curtis Dennis is my cousin, “says Famous. “I talk to him about his experience in New Mexico, the coaching staff, and the entire program. He has nothing but good words about New Mexico, the fans, and what they have going on over there.”

TheRedMenace.com would like to thank Jarrid Famous for his time, and next time to you talk to Curtis, tell him we said hello. “No problem and thank you guys.”

Seriously though, he could get tired of seeing this photo?
