Lobo fans
should be very excited about Anlsley signing to play for UNM as she is one of
the top players in the state of Texas. One article she was ranked has the 4th
best player in the whole state and last year was All-Region last year by the
Texas Basketball Coaches Association, and she was being recruited by many school
including: TCU, Texas Tech, Colorado, Colorado State, and SMU, along with about
10 to 15 other schools.
I spoke with Ricky Romero founder of the
Lubbock Lady Hawks Kelsey's AAU team about Kelsey and her abilities on the
court. Romero said her rebounding was top notch, and her strength is out of this
world. Down low she has good footwork and is a fabulous finisher in and around
the hoop. Ansley is consistent from 15 to 17 feet, and she has been working
daily on expanding that to the three point line. Ansley also works hard on her
defense as she had five steals in her first game this season.

As far as things
that Kelsey has to work on Romero said, she has to work on her foot speed up and
getting down the court could get better. Furthering her range is something that
they are working on so she can jump outside to the three point arc and hit from
their as well to make her even more dangerous.
Romero says that Kelsey is
a very “coachable” girl and he believes she will fit right into the
Flanagan system. Romero ought to know as he has had six players in his various
programs that have went on and
played for Flanagan’s Lobos including Lobo superstars Abbie Letz, Mandi
Moore, and Mellissa Forest and the next one just might be Kelsey. Romero called
Kelsey a “late bloomer,” saying in the last two years she has turned in to a
great player, and she understands the game very well.

We
also discussed the reason for her decision to come to UNM. Romero said first and
foremost, the Coaching staff. When
Kelsey came out to a Lobo camp she really enjoyed herself and had nothing but
great things to say about the staff and what they taught her during the camp.
Second of course, the fan base. “How many places do you get to play in-front of
10,000 people a game?” said Kelsey. “I'm very excited to be a Lobo and to join
such an exciting family... THE LADY LOBO'S! I can't wait to put on the
Cherry and Silver and run down the tunnel to all of the fans of LOBO
basketball...”
