Eye On Recruiting: Tarean Austin

Tarean Austin

The University of New Mexico is putting their finishing touches on the 2010 recruiting class.

Every Lobo fan let out a collective sigh of relief when QB Tarean Austin from Hillsborough High School in Tampa, FL gave UNM his verbal commitment last week. Going into next season, the Lobos were unsettled at the Quarterback position, so coach Locksley aggressively pursued Austin and finally got his man.

TRM: What's an accurate height and weight for you?

TA: 6'2", 205lbs.

TRM: So when did UNM begin the recruiting process?

TA: Last spring practice, my coach called me in and told me UNM contacted him with an official offer. After the offer, looked into New Mexico and really studied up on them.

TRM: How do feel about coach Locksley and the Lobos?

TA: I feel really good about them. Coach Locks told me if came in, learned the playbook, and took care of business on the field, then I would have a chance to compete for the starting QB position.

TRM: Which assistant coach handled your recruitment? How is your relationship with him?

TA: Coach (Reuben) Carter. We have a pretty good relationship and we talk a lot on the phone.

TRM: What do you do well as a QB?

TA: Well, I have strong arm and I get the ball out to the receivers, but I am not afraid to get the first down with my feet. New Mexico runs the spread and I will feel comfortable running it since we run the same offense.

TRM: Finally, is there anything you want to say to the Lobo fans reading this article?

TA: Yeah, change is coming and this is the year.
