The Lobos
opened up the 2008-09 MWC conference with a big win last night at The
Pit by
blowing out perennial rival UNLV 75 to 49. In front of a rabid
Lobo crowd
of nearly 8000.
I
was very impressed the way the
Lobos came out after suffering a dismantling Texas A&M this past
weekend,
but true to form under Coach Don Flanagan the Lobos stepped up in a
large way.
Eileen
Weissmann
What
has really been exciting
about the Lobo team this year is that they spread around the offense or
the
star of the game, if one player has an off game there is another player
that
steps up to take control, and tonight was no different as the Lobos
leading
scorers were Eileen Wiessmann and Amy Beggin with 13 points apiece, but
it was
Weissmann who was deadly from behind the arc going 3 of 4 and she also
added 7
boards.
Amy Beggin
The Lobos also played outstanding
defense once again led by Weissmann who had 5 steals leading us to name
Eileen
The Red Menace player of the game.
UNM has improved to 12-2 &1-0
in the MWC and UNLV fell to 7-7 0-1.
After the win The Red menace was able
to spend some time with Amanda
Adamson and talk to her about a wide verity of things including: the
UNLV game,
team chemistry and how the season has gone so far

It was a priviledge to talk to Amanda
as she spent a lot of time in the gym in the off season working on
driving,
shooting and talking a bigger role on this years team. Amanda has
stepped into
the starting line up and took a senior
leadership
role on her shoulders and with the Lobos getting better it is obvious
that work
has really paid off.
