Sports
fans are used to switching to the AM dial to get
their sports news and views in the car, or at the office. For those of
us long
time listeners you know how much hell you play in your office as you
can’t hear
unless you sit close to a window and there isn’t any metal above your
head. If
you’re that lucky, you get to hear that static like sound that gives
you a
headache. Or the ever popular driving around town go under a street
light and
lose the feed, or even worse, once the sun goes down…
Well
all that changed today (August 1st) as KQTM
“The Team” 101.7 FM has made the switch to an all sports programming.
At
this point The Team is broadcasting their nationally
syndicated Fox sports radio, longtime sports anchor Dan Patrick, and
are home
to the Dallas Cowboys. “Team” President Joe O’Neil anticipates over the
next
few weeks of adding a local show from 10a-1p and drive time show as
well. Toss
in some Lobo sports pre and post game shows for Lobo football, men’s
hoops, and
some women’s hoops as well.
There
has been one sports station in Albuquerque for years
now that has had a stranglehold on the market as other stations have
tried to
take over and for various reasons don’t make it. I asked Joe why the
Team would
be different? O’Neil responded, “We are a local radio station, with
local host,
for the local fans.”
For
those of you that have read this website, or listened to
my rants before…I'm really excited as The Team is speaking the language
of The Red Menace! Local sports talk for local
sports fans!
