Katching Up With Katie Hnida

Find out what former Lobo kicker Katie Hnida is up to these days!

It took awhile to make the connection. I tried various times and still no dice. Then I was calling just to leave a message you know, the NBA draft was on, and low and behold my Lobo luck struck cherry and sliver, it was Katie Hnida!

 I knew she has been a little busy lately, but when she ticked off the list of things she is up to in both football and out of football, well, I was out of breath.

The interview went fast except for a break to cheer for J.R. Giddens as his named flashed across the TV in my den announcing that the Boston Celtics had picked the former Lobo great in the First Round. After the interview Katie and I talked for about an hour just catching up on everything Lobo.

Time has flown by for Katie and a lot has happened in her life. She got her Psychology degree from UNM; the cleats she wore to kick the first points ever scored in a Division One football game by a female are in the College Football Hall of Fame; her book "Still Kicking" and it's national appeal which had her on various shows including "Good Morning America" continues to sell, she is continuing her career in football playing for a semi-pro team (Colorado Cobras) where, Katie scored the first points in the teams history! All sandwiched around speaking at seminars for survivors of sexual assault, writing for magazines, and the internet… yes, Katie Hnida is a busy person!
