Lobos basketball season is halfway through. Here are some thoughts by Wes and "The 26" Also check out the audio with Mackenzie, Cup of Noodles, and meet another super fan... Lobo Louie!

We have made it halfway through the MWC season and both the men and women find themselves sitting on a four and four record. Both teams are struggling at times, looking very beatable , also looking like the class act of the MWC, as well. Let’s first take a look at how the MWC season as been for the Lobo Men.

The first game was a road test at Wyoming, comparing both teams this could not have been more of a miss match. But the Cowboys shredded that theory by shooting the ball well and building a 16 point lead going into half time. The no give up Lobos fought back to tie the game a force it into overtime. Were a matured JR Giddens took over in the 1st and 2nd over time to give the Lobos a much need victory on the road and giving the Lobos a great start to the MWC season.

The next two games was pretty much the same story, at TCU and home to SDSU. The Lobos build a huge lead to only lose all of it in the seconded half. The Lobos had leads in both games upwards of 18 to 22 points, as the leads faded the Lobos did as well and the boys fell to 1-2 in the conformance. The worst part of the TCU game was when x-Lobo Ryan Wall nailed a three pointer to give TCU the upset win. We need not to forget about David Hall as well……

The Lobos were able to get back in their winning ways in the next two games at Air Force and home to Utah. At AFA the Lobos were just the flat out better team and showed as they won the game going away. On the Other hand the Utah game was a different story; once again the Lobos were able to build a big lead in the 1st half. To only lose it and find them down as much as 11 in the second half. As they have shown in different occasions they did not give up and fought back into the game, and forced overtime once again. Once again the Lobos came out on the good side with a 10 point win!

The next two games many of us want to forget on the road verses BYU and UNLV. BYU forced their will by beating the Lobos from the three point arc shooting 81% from three and the line were the Lobos struggled again. The UNLV game was much of same they were more athletic team won that game.

Final home game of the first half was a game verses Colorado State. From the tip the Lobos were the better team they proved it by going up 28 to 6 in the first half, also starting the second half on a 15 to 0 run, as the Lobos evened out their record to 4 and 4.

Now let’s take a look at the Women’s side……

The Lobos come out of the gate trying to upset a senior laded and top 25 team in Wyoming which they were not able to do. The Lobos held their own and holding the lead for most of the game but a cold shooting streak doomed the Lobos and the feel by six. In the Next game the Lobos went on to the road and took it to an improving SDSU team, it still was not enough as they Lobos pounded them in every aspect of the game.

The Next two games were much of the same as they split them the same way, a loss in the Pit to TCU and win on the road at Air force. TCU came in to the Pit and pounded the Lobos in the first half and they were able to come back, but miss a three at the buzzer that would have forced over time. The Lobos who have cold from long distance all year came alive on the road at AFA , as the netted 13 threes. While running away with a much needed win.

At Utah the women pulled what the Lobo men have been doing all year, build big lead and lose it. The Lobos were up 14 with seven minutes left to only watch Utah go on a 17-0 run and win the game by three. Next at home they other Utah team came by, BYU, found the Lobos on a cold shooting night were the Lobos only scored 38 points, but UNM’s defense kept them in the game and the Lobos fell by three.

Out of know where the Lobos shooting touch came back in two blow out wins home to UNLV and at CSU. Scoring 94 and 74 respectively in some of the best offence outputs of the season.

Is this young team finally turning the corner and going to make a strong run in the MWC tourney?
