NMVarsity’s postseason top 32 seniors in the state( keep in mind this is
just for fun; however also keep in mind that this list was compiled with input
from the states coaches and other advisors who follow prep football very
closely):
1.) Mike Love RB (Rio Rancho)-will play for UNM next year and should
compete for playing time early in his career. Very complete player and a
gamebreaker.
2.) Bayard Roberts DE (St. Pius X)-will play OLB for Navy next year and
should compete for playing time. Still a little raw, but has unbelievable
upside.
3.) Chris Hernandez WR (Mayfield)-very polished
WR. Great size and great hands. Is not a burner, but not a turtle either. Very
effective weapon.
4.) Matt Nulk DE (La Cueva)-Was an absolute terror
for opposing teams. Very agile for a kid who is 6’5 and extremely aggressive.
Has a big upside himself.
5.) David Bustillos QB (Mayfield)-Just a player
who did what took to carry his team to a state championship. Very effective
passer and runner.
6.) Nicky Lawson WR (Manzano)-dangerous WR whose deceptive speed helped
him make plays the past 2 years. Will play for UNM next year.
7.) Abdullah Konte CB (Eldorado)-fast CB who was
probably the states best. Great athlete who also helped with his play at
RB.
8.) Caleb Elliot RB (Kirtland Central)-perhaps the
states most underrated player. Put up big time numbers despite having very much
help. Big, strong, fast.
9.) Brandon Torrey OL (Rio Rancho)-one of the
better OL the state has seen over the past few years. The anchor for an offense
with gaudy numbers 2 years in a row.
10.)Devin Sweet S (Clovis)-very good player from
his safety spot and could also be argued as one of the state’s best QB’s. Very
big and athletic.
11.) Sam Camili DT (Mayfield)-stud for Mayfield
the past 2 years. Very consistent and strong. Also a standout OL.
12.) Clint Carroll QB (Cibola)-Dual threat QB who
has been outstanding for 3 years. Made things happen despite lack of supporting
cast.
13.) Jared Metzgar RB (Manzano)-Big bruiser who
put up big numbers the past 2 years. Was an almost automatic TD in the
redzone.
14.)Kurt Bejewski OL (La Cueva)-not the biggest
OL, but definitely the most technique sound. Very underrated player! Tough as
nails.
15.) James Stanford LB (St. Pius)-not extremely
fast and not even that big at 6’0, 205 but an absolute tackle machine. Tough kid
and a great LB.
16.) Nick Wilhelm WR (Los Lunas)-Made plays all
over the field and was also a shutdown DB and a great punter.
17.) Roy Hackey S (Hatch)-great talent, with tough demeanor and a great
set of tools for college. Will play for UNM next year.
18.) Aaron Simon OL (Clovis)-tough as nails and
anchored a great OL. Big with a mean streak.
19.) John Ciepiela TE (Eldorado)-Great threat
catching the ball and also a very good LB.
20.) Steven Gilbert RB (Academy)-Not as flashy as
some other RB’s the state has, but there are none tougher. Put up numbers just
as good as anyone over the last 3 years.
21.) Albert DeHoyas LB (Artesia)-tough little LB.
Mean and made plays all over the field for Artesia. Very fast and has great
instincts.
22.) Mike Olsen LB (Rio Rancho)-Great looking LB.
Very fast and was the best player on a very athletic and quick
defense.
23.) Chris Finch TE (Clovis)-big body who at times
dominated opponents. Still very athletic for his size.
24.) Terrance Lowe RB (Alamogordo)-Fast and a big
play waiting to happen.
25.) Jesus Baca S (Goddard)-great player for
Goddard the past 3 years. Very athletic and was even a dangerous dual threat at
QB.
26.) Dakota Woodard RB (Silver)-very good player.
Surprises you with his power and his quickness is up there with the best. Very smart and patient
player.
27.)Jacob Morales WR (Silver)-Very athletic big
guy at WR. Made plays when he needed to and was a threat for 6 downfield.
28.) Scotty Crespin RB (Socorro)-shifty little
runner who is clearly underrated. Has real good speed and quickness.
29.) Greyson Wieczorek LB (La Cueva)-Strong and
physical Lb who made running to his side very difficult. Good speed and good
size. Will Play for UNM next year.
30.) Tommy Spangler RB (Goddard)-very similar to
Jared Metzgar. Has a little more power and used it. Tough kid with a LB
mentality at RB.
31.) Sean Sullivan QB (St. Pius X)-solid player
over the past 2 years. Was a dual threat with a very strong arm.
32.)Cory
Marcum WR (Aztec)- spent his days torching defensive backfields, while at Aztec.
Very quick player with sure hands.
