Justin Holt Will Not Be A Lobo

Earlier this year a lot was made of University of New Mexico Head Basketball Coach Ritchie McKay taking chances on a group of players that had some past issues with their former teams.

Last month Coach McKay had suspended guard Josh Jenkins indefinitely and word out of the men’s basketball offices are that 6-7 210 guard/forward combo Justin Holt will not be joining the men’s basketball team. Here is the official word from UNM

University of New Mexico men’s basketball head coach Ritchie McKay announced today that junior transfer Justin Holt will not be on the team for the 2005-06 season. Holt, a 6-7 guard/forward from Tacoma, Wash., transferred to New Mexico from Indian Hills Community College in Ottmwa, Iowa, and was enrolled at UNM during the summer.

“Due to unrealized academic expectations, Justin is going to pursue his career goals elsewhere,” stated McKay. “We wish him nothing but the best in his future endeavors. Nonetheless, we are excited about our team and the upcoming season. We have great chemistry and are
looking forward to competing for another conference championship.”

Holt averaged 13.5 ppg and 7.2 rpg for Indian Hills last season. He was an honorable mention All-Region XI selection and would have had two years of eligibility at UNM.
