When last we left Lobo training camp Dan Dodd was all over his offensive
charges. He was downright ticked
off that they didn’t put forth the effort that he knew they were capable
of. I had predicted that they would
come out on fire early on…
Well I was dead wrong! Monday morning was an early practice and it was
funny because guys would be scrambling onto the field after their classes, or
leaving early because they had a class coming up and they had to hit the showers
so they didn’t go in stinking like a guy that just had football
practice…
When I first showed up Offensive Coordinator was once again berating the
quarterbacks and receivers for lackadaisical play. I was thinking this is going to get
rough, missed reads, assignments, dropping the ball, and all the other things
that will make a coordinator blow his lid.
The offensive line however was tearing it up

Things started heating up as the offense started putting it
together. One of the most
spectacular plays was Marcus Smith making one of those catches that has everyone
excited. On a 40 yard pass pattern
(think it was a post but not positive) he jumped up and pulled the slightly
under thrown pass in from behind the defenders back, securing it as he hit the
ground sliding. Hank Baskett walked
up and said, “I want to shake the hand of the man that gave us one of the best
catches of the year.” Kole, Tali,
and Tye rotated around and shared the wealth with a host of other receivers as
well. One of the highlights was freshman WR Justin Walker nailing a great catch
in stride and taking into The Red Menace section!
Scrimmage time!
The offense and defense traded blows the whole time, with
the #1 defense coming out on top most of the time. Corners Juamar Hall, Gabe Fulbright, and
Brandon Payne came up large on defense. Stepping in front of balls, knocking
them down, or just blasting a receiver coming around. The talent of the DB’s is truly a site
to behold, especially when you figure the WR they are guarding are usually
larger then they are. Defensive
line showed up as well getting in on some plays were Adam Garday, Kyle Coulter,
and Mike Tuohy.
When the offense started hitting Kole was able to put the ball in some
nice places. He hit Martin Romero
for a nice little slant TD reception, saw a streaking Curtis “The Passion” Pino
for an easy TE up the middle TD, and hit Hank Baskett a couple more time
including the perfect play for Hank Baskett.
The Play of The Day!
Lobo offense on the 5-yard line, Hank Baskett lined up to
left, Kole drops back and throws the perfect fade ball. Hank “The high jumper” Baskett jumps up
and snares the TD between 2 Lobo defenders!

Offensive
Player of Practice

#83 Martin Romero
Martin not only caught a touchdown pass where he was blasted (Thank
goodness they weren’t wearing full pads.) but also was instrumental on moving
the chains.
Defensive
Player of Practice

#10 Juamar Hall
Hall was being Gabe Fulbright Jr. denying his side of the field to the
QB. He got beat a couple of times,
but when it was all said and done, he made some great plays, and did a lot of
things that kept the QB’s from looking his direction.
