Summit HS CB
Charles Okonkwo
(Fontana, CA) named
Boise State
as his leader a few months ago and could be on the verge of committing to the Blue and Orange. The talented CB says the Bronco defense has been "very impressive" so far this season, but what makes Boise State continue to stand above the rest?
"It's really about the relationship I've built with Coach Bhonapha and Coach Pete," he said. "Boise State is still my leader and I'm thinking about committing soon," he added.
"I spoke to Coach Bhonapha this morning," he stated. "I told him I was thinking about committing and he told me to just make sure that I'm ready and take my time if I'm not."
"They have a great tradition at Boise State," said Okonwko. "They've won lots of games over the years, have a great defense, but it's really about the coaching staff. I have built a great relationship with them."
The Bronco offense has struggled through the first three games, but the defense appears to be just as good as last year. That hasn't gone unnoticed by Okonkwo.
"Their defense is very impressive," he said. "I always watch a defense, their technique, the receivers, their routes, and see if I can cover those guys. Watching that
BYU
game was really interesting with Donte (Deayon) being at Boise State and Jamal (Wilson) being at BYU."
Okonkwo and his teammates are 3-1 through four games and appear to be right in the mix once again for a run at the CIF Championship. He says this year's team has steadily improved through four games and they expect big things as the season progresses.
"We're 3-1 right now," said Okonkwo. "I think this team has come together a lot. There were some doubts over the summer, but we seem to be getting better. I think we're going to have a pretty good team after four games and should continue to get better too."
Okonkwo only has 1 INT through four games, but it's because opposing offenses rarely throw to his side of the field.
"I was going to try to break Donte's record this year," he said. "Teams just haven't been throwing to my side a lot. I've racked up a lot of tackles, but only 1 INT so far."
BroncoCountry.com will continue to have updates on Charles Okonkwo.
