- Texas Tech defeated New Mexico 49-14 on Saturday night at
Jones AT&T Stadium in front of 58, 995 which marked the fourth most in
school history.
- The Red Raiders had 702 yards of total offense, marking
the first time since 2009, when Tech put 739 yards on Kansas, that feat has
been accomplished.
- It was a balanced attack, Tech finished with 325 yards on
the ground, and 377 yards through the air.
- Tech finished with 38 first downs, while New Mexico
managed only eight throughout the game.
- The Red Raider’s defense held up holding the Lobos, a
triple-option offensive team, 127 total yards, 84 yards on the ground and 43
through the air.
- The 98-yard kickoff return the Red Raiders allowed was the
longest allowed since Kansas State’s Tyler Lockett rattled off a 100-yard
return last season in the Jones.
- Tech had 8 penalties for 90 yards, while New Mexico just
had 4 for 37 yards.
- Seth Doege finished the game going 27-for-35 for 340
yards, six touchdowns and no interceptions.
- Marks the second-straight 300-yard performance from Doege
and 11th of his career. The six touchdowns are a new career-high, he tied the career-high of five on September 8 against
Texas State.
- Threw five touchdowns in the first half, last Tech
quarterback to do that was Stephen Sheffield did it in 2009 against Kansas
State
- Doege also surpassed the 5,000 yard career passing mark
and also notched his 500th completion as well
- Eric Stephens rushed for 118 yards on 12 carries, first
100-plus yard rushing performance since going for 124 yards on 26 attempts
against Kansas last season
- Kenny Williams set a new career-high in rushing yards with
105, surpassing his previous high of 74 yards against Northwestern State on
September 1. Williams did fumble the ball once.
- Eric Ward returned to action on Saturday night after
missing last weeks game against Texas State and caught
five balls for 90 yards and three touchdowns. All three touchdowns came in the
first half and the last Tech wide receiver to do that was Michael Crabtree in
2007 against Oklahoma State
- The Red Raiders had 13 different players catch passes on
Saturday, marking the third-straight game Tech has had a double digit amount of
different players catching the ball.
- Tech now enters their bye week, and after that the Red
Raiders will play nine-straight against Big 12 Conference opponents starting
with Iowa State on September 29 in Ames, Iowa.
- Tommy Tuberville is looking for his first win against the
Cyclones since taking over the helm of the Red Raiders.
