The UNM
volleyball team improved
to 10-1 on the season by sweeping all three of their matches in
last weekend’s
Shearton Airport/Comcast Lobo Invitational.

on Friday night before defeating sweeping the University
of
Portland 3-0
on Saturday and finishing up with a hard-fought 3-2
victory over
UC-Santa Barbara Saturday afternoon.
Coach Jeff Nelson earned a
landmark 100th victory against Georgia Southern.
Sophomore
middle blocker
Elsa Krieg junior outside hitter Ashley Newman were both named
to the All-tournament
team while sophomore hitter Chantale Riddle was named tournament
most valuable
player.
The UNM netters
next play in
the Oklahoma Invitational in Norman, Okla. next weekend against
the host Lady
Sooners, Arkansas-Little Rock and Southern Methodist.

splits matches with Georgia and Florida.

Montoya scored
a pair of goals, the Lobos won their third straight game last
Friday, defeating Georgia 2-0
in Athens, Ga.
Montoya scored
the game
winner in the 39th minute off a rebound from a hard
shot by Elba
Olguin. Montoya then gave UNM some
insurance in the 80th minute on a free kick from 30
yards out.
On Sunday, No.
24 Florida
erased a 2-1 deficit after a 45-minute delay due to lightning to
take a 3-2
win over the Lobos. Montoya started
the scoring in the 20th minute off a turnover. The
Lady Gators
equalized in the 49th minute but New Mexico managed
to take the lead
back on a Stepahine Rowe goal in the 56th.
Florida then
scored two
goals within six minutes of each other to secure the win.
UNM (3-4-1)
hosts in-state
rivals NMSU on Sunday at 4 p.m. at the UNM Soccer Complex.
UNM men and
women golf
teams finish 5th in respective tournaments
In Wayzata,
Minn., the
18th-ranked New
Mexico men’s golf team fought the elements to
shoot a 22-over 310 on Monday to slipped one spot to a
fifth-place finish among
the 15 teams after Monday’s final round of The Gopher
Invitational.
The Lobos UNM
posted a
31-over 895 (304-281-310) and finished 33 strokes behind
tournament winner No.
2 California (274-290-298=862). The Golden Bears were the only
team under par
at 2 under.
UNM sophomore
Victor Perez
was the highest finisher for UNM, finishing in sixth place at
3-over. He posted
scores of 73, 68 and 78.
In Fort
Collins, Colo. New
Mexico junior Manon De Roey won her first collegiate tournament
today and set a
school record in the process shooting a total of 207 (69-68-70)
at the Colonel
Bill Wollenberg Ptarmigan Ram Classic – the lowest 54-hole total
by a UNM
women's golfer as UNM
finished fifth overall.
The previous
record was 208
held by former All-American Jodi Ewart at the 2009 Branch Law
Firm/Dick McGuire
Invitational at the UNM Championship Course.
De Roey
finished at 9 under,
the third best score by a Lobo in relation to par. Ewart was 11
under at the
2009 McGuire while Caroline Keggi finished 10 under at the 1986
Roadrunner
Invitational at the New Mexico State University course in Las
Cruces.
UNM finished
tied for fifth
with Louisville, Nevada and Long Beach State
with a 32 over par
score of 896. The Lobos shot 298, 288 and 310 respectively.
