FRESNO, CA – Kevin Olekaibe’s missed a three-pointer with eight seconds remaining in the third overtime as Fresno State’s upset bid against league leading Nevada came up short on Saturday night at the Save Mart Center. Kevin Foster led the Bulldogs with 24 points…

Fresno State trailed 77-74 with 18.6 remaining in the third overtime. The coaches drew up the final shot for Kevin Olekaibe. Nevada doubled him, and Olekaibe forced up the three-pointer from atop the key and it was blocked by Dario Hunt.

Hunt came away with the loose ball and Olekaibe fouled with 8.7 seconds remaining, fouling out in the process. Hunt made the first free throw but the second was rebounded by Jonathan Wills. Garrett Johnson missed a three-pointer, but Wills’ put back the miss with 1.3 remaining cut the lead down to 78-76. Tyler Johnson immediately fouled Malik Story on the inbound sending him to the line.

Story made the first free throw extending the lead to three. The second was rebounded by Wills, who immediately passed it crosscourt to Johnson. But his desperation three-point attempt came after the buzzer had sounded.

Tyler Johnson was whistled for a travel after wrestling with Kevin Foster for a rebound with 34.6 seconds remaining in regulation. But Nevada couldn’t capitalize as Steven Shepp blocked Deonte Burton’s three-point shot with 1.8 seconds, and Dario Hunt missed from 15 feet out as the buzzer sounded.

In the first overtime, Johnson missed from inside the key with just over six seconds remaining, and Nevada’s Malik Story’s prayer from half court was way off as the buzzer sounded.

In the second overtime, Jonathan Wills layup with 50 seconds remaining gave the ‘Dogs a 68-67 lead. Hunt tied it at 68 with a free throw. FS had the last shot with 28 seconds to play but Wills attempt with four ticks left was off.

Kevin Olekaibe hit back-to-back shots from beyond the arc to tie the game at 53 with 2:51 remaining after Nevada seemed to take control of the game with a six-point lead on a thunderous dunk by Hunt at the 3:44 mark. It was Olekaibe’s second and third made shot on the night giving him just nine points after putting up 43 two nights ago.
