"I thought we had a great defensive stop there at the end," said Fresno State Head Coach Rodney Terry. "We gave up a key offensive rebound that hurt us there. We didn't finish the possession with a block out."
Early in the second half, Idaho extended their one-point lead with a nine-to-three run. Fresno State could not fully close the gap until the last minute of the game, when Kevin Olekaibe evened the score with 41 seconds left to play.
Fresno State kept Idaho center Kyle Barone off the court, as foul trouble limited him to just 18 minutes. But Djim Bandoumel gave the Bulldogs fits in the paint all game long. Bandoumel scored 16 points on shot 5-of-7 from the field, and made all six free throw attempts. Idaho as a team took full advantage of their free-throw opportunities. The Vandals shot 88%, making 22-of-25 attempts.
Kevin Olekaibe led the Bulldogs with 15 points. Jonathan Wills was limited to 22 minutes due to foul trouble, but still finished with 9 points. Olekaibe was the only Bulldog in double figures, but five other players all finished with seven points or more.
Fresno State falls to 7-10 on the season, and opens WAC play with a 0-2 record. The Bulldogs return home for a three game home stand, starting on Thursday with Hawaii at 7 p.m. PST.
